ABOUT US

Chapman Architect’s experience and creativity has delivered a unique portfolio of buildings and environments over the last 20 years.

Started by Greg Chapman as founding partner, we have grown into a studio of talented individuals, now lead by a much larger dedicated management team.

What is consistent from the early days and throughout our practice, is that we listen to our clients and their aspirations become the vanguard for all the wealth of experience we can add to the process of delivering our client’s vision.

Our workload is broad and encompasses projects across all sectors of the industry, from new offices, mixed-use retail schemes and apartments, to complex refurbishments of existing buildings.

Our architectural projects often encompass more than one discipline involving our trusted associates we can also offer interior and landscape design, to provide our clients with a coordinated and integrated service. We can also put together teams to include planning consultants, historic advisors, structural and services engineers, and project managers, all with the same unique experience of building in exceptionally intricate spaces.

We have unique experience of working on existing Listed buildings in London producing sensitive and innovative buildings integrating new with old.

To successfully deliver a scheme in Central London requires an in-depth understanding of its many complexities.

London is essentially a city of villages, each one with its own aspirations for growth. The Mayor of London has set out his vision for “good growth” which will be interpreted in different ways by the many Boroughs that make up the rich tapestry of this area. London’s historic context is key to working within the many Conservation Areas. London has endured destruction by the Great Fire of London and the Blitz but has risen again with ‘the new’ sitting comfortably alongside Baroque, Gothic and Palladian masterpieces.

Our team of creative managers have over 80 years of experience between them of working in our unique and eclectic Capital.

This map identifies the buildings we have worked on in Central London alone.

Greg Chapman

Founder and Director

Greg founded Chapman Architects in 2005 and has more than 25 years of professional experience. Previously, Greg worked with both Arup and Bennetts Associates.

He is committed to delivering the highest standard of design to all projects, both new build and refurbishment and is involved at every stage. However, Greg has gained particular experience in ensuring that the ‘die is cast’ in the initial stages of a project, to ensure it meets the client’s brief and presents the best value option.

Greg has developed a good rapport and track record with planning authorities, where his straight and open style of presentation, has ensured many successful permissions. Greg is an enthusiast and enjoys the design process. He is keen that the Company exceeds client’s expectations in both the design and delivery.

Shaun Leung

Architectural Assistant

Before joining Chapman Architects in 2022, Shaun gained his Part I qualification at the University of Edinburgh and worked for two years in Europe and Hong Kong as an Architectural Assistant. Most of his experience lies in the technical design stages, working on interesting commercial projects to include the resolution of construction details for a new church, sanctuary and residential tower development for one of the oldest religious institutions in Hong Kong.

Shaun is interested in new socio-economic models within the building industry, and  particularly the reuse, refurbishment and repurpose of materials and existing structures.

Olivia Jones

Architectural Assistant

Olivia joined Chapman Architects in May 2022, whilst completing her first year of postgraduate studies at the University of Portsmouth, where she achieved a First Class Honours. Olivia is one of our Part 1 assis-tants, but she first interned at Haverstock Architects for 16 months, where she helped with the designs of numerous SEN school projects around the South of England and London.

Olivia enjoys designing spaces that can have a profound impact on its community whilst also celebrating the site’s context. Her favourite part of the design process is engaging with client and end user through sketch and visuals, realising their aspiration within a given brief. It is important to Olivia that her work re-duces our impact on the environment, as we collectively strive towards a carbon neutral footprint.

Aakash Patel

Architect

Aakash joined Chapman Architects in August 2022. He completed his Part 3 at the University of Westminster, becoming a fully qualified Architect in October 2020.

Prior to joining the team, Aakash worked for Pace Jefford Moore Architects, where he assisted with the construction of numerous projects in the commercial and residential sectors across London.

Aakash believes that diversity and innovation are crucial to ensuring the profession is best placed to respond to changing social and environmental concerns. He believes that well designed spaces can enhance the surrounding environment, and that design should draw upon the local context by responding to the community and space within which in inhabits.

Larisa Dobie

Associate Director

Larisa joined Chapman Architects in 2014 while studying at Greenwich and then Westminster Universities. Her enthusiasm for the design process and her natural and inherent design skills continue to enthuse the whole office. She has worked on numerous projects across a variety of sectors within Chapman Architects, including the Kiln Theatre, a high-end mixed-use refurbishment in Mayfair, and the redevelopment of Portsea Mews.

Larisa has gained a great appreciation for the importance of detail in design, and the materials she works with. Her focus is on working with challenging existing buildings, such as the Grade II Listed Painting Rooms in Soho, and a complex shell and core development in Westminster which aims to create a new link extension and an outstanding landscape between two existing buildings.

Chris Longman

Architect

Chris joined CA in 2023 as an Architect, after working in the commercial sector where he has gained experience over all RIBA Stages and from concept to completion.

His past experience is very akin to the CA portfolio; Chris has worked on commercial projects and within education, he also has a keen interest in the retail sector and has studied the need for private investment in the high street, to allow retailers to compete with their online rivals.  In his last role as a Project Architect, Chris achieved planning permission within the City of London’s Fleet Street Conservation Area, and is well versed in working with Central London’s unique planning complexities and producing sensitive and innovative solutions while integrating new with old.

Chris is a friendly, enthusiastic, and detail-orientated architect. He thrives on collaboration with consultants and contractors to ensure every detail is of the highest quality for the client and community the project serves.

George Thomson

Associate Director

George has worked for Chapman Architects since 2019, achieving promotion to Associate Director in 2022. Although he has worked on a diverse range of projects in a wide variety of sectors during his career, more recently he has specialised in high-end, mixed-use retail and office refurbishments in Mayfair. George’s knowledge of New Bond Street buildings is second to none in the office and George has completed no less than 5 buildings from inception to completion during his time with us.

George’s considered approach ensures that projects run smoothly and that the quality of the build is outstanding, he works with overseas clients who know that they can trust him to deliver in their absence. George has good experience of working with existing listed buildings and preserving their character in a sensitive, yet compelling way, releasing their potential for a purposeful future.

Annie Chapman

Practice Director

Prior to becoming a Director at Chapman Architects, Annie worked for 25 years in the design industry, and for the last 15, she grew her own award-winning landscape design company.

Annie is committed to ensuring the smooth running of ‘all that isn’t architecture’ within the Practice and is determined to oversee and encourage the current growth, without losing Chapman Architect’s friendly and approachable quality. Annie recognises that the output of the office is in part, a product of the well-being of the overall team. To this end, she strives to ensure that the office has an active and vibrant environment, and that everyone is well supported.

Ben Smith

Architectural Assistant

Ben was engaged by CA after visiting the Portsmouth Architectural Degree Show; Ben’s excellent graphic style really shone out!

Ben’s interest in sustainability and in creating greener communities will lead him to get involved in our projects where our clients have a commitment to fulfilling BREEAM EXCELLENT, which is becoming a common requirement in Central London. This experience will hopefully offer Ben new thinking to shape his future projects, when he restarts his studies again in 2024.

“We have been working with the Chapman Architects team for a little more than two years on a major redevelopment of our central London corporate headquarter building. During this time I have worked with many of the Chapman Architects team and found them all to be of equal high caliber – always attentive to our needs and sensitive to the fact that we are not architects or developers and therefore we need our hand being held and our voice being heard. When the project comes to an end I shall, on one side be, excited because of the result but sad that I have reached the end of an enjoyable working relationship. I hope that I find other projects to work with the Chapman Architects team on as I am sure the results will be equally brilliant.”

Jamie Cayzer-Colvin, Caledonia Investments

“Being based in Hong Kong we need an experienced pair of hands to deliver our projects in London. Greg and his team at Chapman Architects have proved to be exactly what we had hoped for and are currently helping us to realise four separate developments that will provide some of the highest quality of retail and office space located within the heart of Mayfair. As such I would happily and highly recommend Chapman Architects for any London project.”
